Cracked or deteriorated crowns allow water to enter directly into the structure.

Without a proper cap, water goes straight down the flue.

Brick and mortar are porous. Over time, they absorb water—especially with Connecticut freeze/thaw cycles.

On framed chimneys, a rusted or poorly designed chase cover will leak.
HOW WE ACTUALLY FIX CHIMNEY LEAKS

- Full flashing replacement (not just sealing)
- Crown repair or rebuild
- Chimney cap installation
- Masonry waterproofing (when appropriate)
- Partial or full rebuilds when necessary
In some cases, multiple issues are contributing to the leak. Fixing only one will not solve the problem.
WHY “QUICK FIXES” DON’T WORK
If you’ve seen tar, caulk, or roofing cement around your chimney, it’s usually a sign the leak has already been patched—and failed.
Those materials:
- Crack over time
- Trap water instead of redirecting it
- Often make the problem worse
There are limited situations where sealing products are appropriate—but they are not a substitute for proper repair.
