What We Found Inside the Chimney
The chimney service started with a standard interior inspection.
What we uncovered, though, pointed to long-term issues: layers of deteriorated flue tile, heavy creosote accumulation, and visible surface exfoliation—clear signs of excessive heat exposure and poor ventilation over time.
These issues not only jeopardize the efficiency of a chimney system but also pose serious fire safety risks.
Based on our evaluation, the existing flue likely no longer met current fire safety standards.
To make matters worse, a cracked concrete crown at the top of the chimney was allowing water to seep into the structure, accelerating deterioration.
Addressing Structural and Safety Hazards
The chimney had served its home well for years, but age had taken its toll. Our solution started with a partial rebuild of the top section of the chimney. We used high-quality red bricks to reconstruct the upper portion, ensuring straight, clean mortar joints and a secure structure.
To protect the rebuilt section, we poured a new concrete crown, engineered to shed water away from the chimney’s masonry.
You can still see the transition between the older and newer bricks—a visible reminder of the upgrades that now protect this Bridgeport home from further damage.
Two new clay flue tiles are exposed at the top, awaiting final cap installation, and a new stainless steel chimney cap now offers another layer of defense against the elements.
Upgrading the Furnace Venting System
While inspecting the chimney’s interior, we also addressed a second issue: the home’s furnace flue piping. The previous setup was outdated and inefficient. Our team installed rigid metal flue piping designed to safely vent exhaust from the home’s boiler or furnace. With the proper clearances and angled fittings in place, the new system is fully code-compliant and optimized for long-term use.
This dual-pronged approach—rebuilding the chimney and modernizing the furnace venting—ensures both the heating system and chimney work together safely and efficiently.
