Windsor was the first English settlement in Connecticut. The population for the city is 29,044. The motto for the city is “First in Connecticut, First for its Citizens”. The city was first settled in 1633, then named in 1637. The city is six miles from Hartford and is a great place to live or to visit.
The Windsor Meadows State Park is located on the edge of the city and the Connecticut River runs along the edge of the park. The Windsor Meadows State Park has nature trails, a nature center, and there is also an animal barn that has sheep, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, goats, and burros. Children are allowed to feed the animals in the animal barn during the daytime hours. There is a public pool at the Welch Park along with a pond for fishing, tennis courts, and a playground for the kids.
