Several rental conversions have been completed include the former Read’s Department Store into artists’ lofts. In 2010, the Bridgeport Housing Authority and a local health center announced plans to build a $20 million medial housing complex.
The city offers many activities for visitors and residents alike, including the Connecticut Beardsley Zoo, Captain’s Cove Seaport, Discovery Museum, Housatonic Museum of Art, the Port Jefferson Ferry, and the Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course. Also available are many parks and recreational centers, including an Adopt a Tree program and swimming lessons.
Bridgeport is composed of about 70 distinct neighborhoods and districts found in five distinct areas including downtown Bridgeport, East Bridgeport/East Side/East End, West Side/West End, South End, and North Bridgeport/North End.
